Why partnering with a nursing recruitment specialist could make 2019 your best year

Posted by: Lynn Sedgwick

As we head towards the end of the year and get ready to welcome a new one, it’s an ideal opportunity to reflect. That’s why we’ve put together this blog, to help you assess what difficulties the health and social care sector has faced this year, and how to plan so that 2019 gets off to a successful start.

Challenges and opportunities in 2018

It’s not a secret that staffing levels across the health sector are a challenge. Nearly every week an article emerges in the press to suggest that demand for nursing and care staff outstrips supply and 2018 has seen this trend continue. Back in April, it was reported that our changing relationship with Europe was adding pressure to staffing levels: numbers of EU nurses arriving in Britain fell to their lowest rates at the same time as the number of EU nurses leaving the UK climbed to its highest.

This certainly poses a challenge for healthcare employers, though taking on new staff is a golden opportunity to attract the very best talent. We touched on this back in August, with our blog ‘How to make nurses an employment offer they can’t refuse.’ A strong job offer gives you the very best chance of securing the talent that you want. Not only does this contribute to your success in the short term, because you’ve filled the vacancy, it has positive long-term effects also. Staff that are pleased with the offer and fulfilled by the work are much happier and that means patients are happier in the long run too!

What’s happening across the market: plan now, succeed later

As discussed above, the demand for health care workers is high. And while nurses frequently feature in the press, there’s one area that is often overlooked: care positions. It isn’t just hospitals and doctors surgeries that need nurses, we’ve long been champions of organisations that provide care services

The lack of HCAs and health care workers of all descriptions is an ongoing trend in 2018. In September this year, Skills For Care published findings that at any one time there are up to 110, 000 vacancies for adult social care workers. To succeed in future, the best bet is to start planning for all eventualities now. Building up a resilient, capable, high-performing team will put you in a strong position to face whatever challenges come up. In September, we published our top tips for healthcare employers to build the best team possible, despite the odds. We hope you find it useful!

Clayton Recruitment’s success stories

We like to think that our dedication to clients pays off and these positive comments clients have shared suggest it’s making a difference:

  • “Clayton Recruitment are very approachable and focused on the needs of the job role. I enjoyed working with them and it has been an effective process.” Human Resources Manager, health trust in North West England
  • “Clayton helped us find a registered manager for our Homecare service and nurses for our nursing home. They are very quick to respond and only sent the details of relevant candidates. They also spoke to us directly about the candidates which was really helpful. Give them a go!” Head of Services and HR, health charity, Merseyside
  • “The team at Clayton helped us to recruit a night nurse. They sent over CVs quickly and interviews were arranged very efficiently. Feedback afterwards was very good and I’d definitely recommend you try them.” Nursing home manager

It’s great to hear such positive feedback, and plenty more people agree: over 200 health care employers have successfully recruited new staff thanks to Clayton, and we’re thrilled to be able to help.
