Why a Face to Face Meeting with Your Nursing Recruiter Is Essential

Posted by: Lynn Sedgwick

If you’ve made it to this blog, chances are you know a little about recruitment. Maybe you’re a nurse just starting on your healthcare career, or you have got in touch with a nursing recruiter looking for a promotion, or a career change.

Most people assume that they know what working with a specialist recruiter entails, but many aren’t aware of how different the service between healthcare recruitment companies can be.

Many companies who have chosen to work with a recruitment company will expect that they will meet all candidates before putting them forward for an interview, which is even more critical in the healthcare sector.

In this article, we will discuss why a face to face meeting with your nursing recruiter is essential, and how working with a recruiting partner who insists on this will give you a better chance of securing your ideal nursing job.

It’s a People Business

First and foremost, it must be said that of all the sectors in which recruitment companies are used, experience has shown that nursing is the sector where face to face meetings are the most important.

As humans, we crave physical contact. Many people feel more satisfied after a face to face meeting rather than a phone call, especially if the aim is to fully understand what drives and motivates the person you are talking to aswell as gain insight to their personal and professional aspirations.

The Human Touch

While a face to face interview allows a nursing recruitment consultant to evaluate the body language and attitude of a candidate, it also takes the element of chance out of every step of the process.

If your recruiting partner insists on meeting face to face with you, they will also have met in person with your prospective line manager.

Having met personally with both client and candidate means that the recruiter will be able to tell if you are a good fit or not for a particular healthcare team and organisation.

Not only this, but your recruiting partner might even be able to pick up on things from meeting you personally that you might not have realised yourself.

Only by meeting you will they know what roles they have that are suited to you. For example, the healthcare assistant role you have applied for might not be a good fit, but they have a nursing apprenticeship in the pipeline they know you would be perfect for.

It’s a Two-Way Process

As recruiters, we try to give the candidate all the information they need about their prospective new role, but we are human too, and sometimes the candidate can ask or touch upon something that we would never have thought of ourselves!

This is one of the fun parts about recruiting because it is such a people business. We get to learn new things from candidates, which make the whole recruiting experience better for everyone involved.

You might think that phone interviews and emails can provide the same information, but believe us when we say, we are speaking from experience. The face to face interview delivers the best results for all parties included!

Technological Limitations

In the recruitment sector, we have seen the world of recruiting change from a person to person led sector into a mostly digital one.

This has helped in countless ways on the one hand, but it has created a limitation for recruiters in that it has not been easy for many to switch to an all-digital method.

While this saves time and allows us to recruit from further afield, it has meant the all-important face to face interview has taken a back seat, which can be detrimental to recruiting in the healthcare field.

While some recruiters have moved away from physical meetings, this has led to a decline in the type of service recruitment companies provide for both clients and candidates.

We know from our own experience the best pairings we create with candidates and their perfect jobs and employers come from face to face meetings and interviews.

Finding a Recruiter Who Insists on Face to Face Interviews

If you are currently looking for your next healthcare role, what steps are you taking to ensure the recruitment company you choose to work with is providing the best service?

Healthcare recruiters are always in need of nursing candidates, but many candidates fall into the trap of giving their details to one recruiter without checking how thorough their process is.
